Mangalore: Lightning Claims One Life, Coast Receives Moderate Rain

Mangalore, Nov 8: A person named Harish (20) from Jaladhara Colony of Nettanige Mudnoor village in Puttur taluk lost his life on Monday November 7 due to lightning. Lightning struck him in the wee hours on Monday, and he died before he could be treated, even though he was rushed in critical condition to Puttur hospital immediately. Harish was sleeping in one portion of the house when he became a victim of lightning. He is survived by parents, a sister and a younger brother.

A student of St George PU College in Nelyady, named Vishakh, took ill after having been affected by lightning. He is being treated in a hospital in Puttur.

Many areas in Dakshina Kannada district including the city received rain on Sunday night and Monday. Udupi district was enveloped in thick clouds, and some areas like Karkala and Hebri received thunder showers.

The meteorological department has predicted rain coupled with thunder and lightning in the state’s coast and some places in south interior Karnataka, and light to moderate rain in some places located in north interior Karnataka.
