Bangalore, Nov 7: Indian Society of Agriculture Economics (ISAE), Mumbai, has conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award as ‘Fellow of ISAE’ on Prof R S Deshpande, Director, Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore, and Prof Y K Alagh, former member of Planning Commission and former Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, for their contributions in the field of agriculture.
The award is instituted for the first time in the country by ISAE.
The President of ISAE Prof C Ramaswamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (NAU) conferred the award on both agro-economists at the 71st annual conference of ISAE held at UAS, Dharwad, according to an ISEC press release.
The ISEC Director Prof Deshpande has been working in agricultural economics for the last 35 years. He has published 17 books on various subjects related to agriculture.
Prof Deshpande was also an architect of the Karnataka’s Agricultural Policy 2006.
He had also received Premanth Foundation Gold Medal for excellent work in agricultural economics and Sir M Visvesvarayya Award given by Visvesvavaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, the release said.
Prof Alagh a foremost leading agricultural economist of the country, has authored several books on policy matters in agriculture in India and headed several important commissions and bodies at the Central level.
Prof Alagh is the Chairman of Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), Gujarat.
