Mangalore: Drunken Driving: Jeep Rams into Mini Bus - One Dead, Another Injured

Mangalore, Nov 6: In a startling incident, an inebriated jeep driver, in his attempt to overtake a mini bus, hit pedestrian Sanjeev (55) in Shaktinagar on Sunday November 6.

It then collided with the mini bus which hit Yathish (15), another pedestrian. Losing control, the mini bus rammed into a wall beside the road.

Sanjeev was seriously injured and immediately taken to the nearby hospital, where he breathed his last.

Sanjeev Shetty was a tailor, and is survived by his wife and three children.

Yathish, who is studying in PUC, escaped with minor injuries and was treated in the hospital. Drivers of the jeep and the mini bus driver fled the scene.

Sources said that the mini-bus was heading towards Mudipu with a few passengers.

A case has been registered at the Kankanady police station.

    absence of footpaths on mangalore roads after concreting is a major isue.

    Non-scientific road, also without footpath is the main reason for this accident. If proper footpath provided to the road all walkable persons also school children will save their lives. Political persons and authorities look after this matter and save lives of poor citizens.

    It is said, wrong driving always causes the accident ,sometime minor and sometime major.Following traffic and traffic rules always minimise the accidents. Drunk and drive is to be punished also the licence to the driver is to be confiscated for certain period. My condolence to the deceased family. may the soul rest in peace.

    If anybody passes through MG Rd in Bangalore after 11.00 pm one can understand the intensity of the effect of drink and drive prevelent now days.It is rampent on Saturdays and Sundays>Handful of salary in IT and other sector has made the situation still worse.

    Added to that corruption in police has exposed the ineffectiveness of our law prevelent for drink and drive offence.

    Mangalore is fast becoming advanced city for such offences.State admn is least bothered & become insensitive for peoples woes.

    I don't understand the logic of some unwanted mob at the crime sceen...do they ever work ?It looks like there is no respect for a dead man and no action to nab the culprits

    Very sad incident.Why can't police control DUI?The jeep carries registration numbers of Kerala!This is real height of madness and we are hearing such kind of irresponsible man made incidents daily from Mangalore city.Some body from Transport or Police department to take initiative to curb such incidents.
