Mangalore: D K Dist Special Police Mobile Squad Seize Wild Snake with Accused

Mangalore, Nov 5: A person smuggling two-headed snake has been arrested by Mangalore special squad forest department officers near Udupi arch.

 The arrested is identified as Basavaraj (45) and a car used by him has been seized.



Acting on tip off, Manjunath K R, PSI, Special police squad of forest department along with his team members caught the culprit while he was on a bid to sell the two headed snake for 30 lac in his omini car numbered KA 20 C 2857. Both the accused and the car has been seized for further investigation.

    The term, 'two-headed' snake is erroneous: Snakes with two heads at same end are rarities and freaks of nature. The snake which was seized here is possibly a Russel's Sand Boa. Both ends of yje snake arethick, one end is the real head and the other,is tail.

    Sadly some mistakenly believe the boa has some medicinal magical properties. The sand boa is not as rare as assumed and is found in Mangaloire too

    Cannot understand from where he got hold of this sand boa as it is endemic to semi desert scrub plains or rocky desert foothills. Reportedly in the international market the price of it could go up to 1cr!!! I think exotic animal species racket is too going on in DK!!
