Mangalore, Nov 4: “The ‘Janachetana Yatra’ undertaken by BJP leader, L K Advani, is an effort to revive his own image. His Yatra (journey) has lost its meaning, as it coincides with a period in which a number of BJP legislators and ministers have made a beeline for ‘Jail Yatra’. The ‘Rath (chariot) Yatra’ has proved to be Yatra by air,” ridiculed former MLA and Suratkal block Congress committee president, Vijay Kumar Shetty.
He was addressing a protest meeting organized on Thursday November 3 at Suratkal Junction under the aegis of Suratkal block Congress committee and youth Congress committee against the corruption of the state government and frequent power failures. On this occasion, movement of traffic on national highway 66 was blocked at Suratkal Junction for about 15 minutes as a measure of protest. Suratkal station house officer, K U Belliappa, took umbrage to the road blockade, pointing out that prior permission had not been obtained for the same.
Shetty criticized the government, whichhe said is submerged in corruption, of not being able to sense the discomfiture of the masses. The government is responsible for power shortages and unscheduled power cuts for prolonged periods,” Shetty felt.
Various leaders like Mangalore North block youth Congress president, Abdul Sattar, district Congress minorities unit president, Moidin Bawa, leaders, Rohitaksha Rai, M A Hasanabba, Hussain Katipalla and Purushottam Chitrapur, were present.
A procession of Congress activists then moved to Mescom office in Suratkal and handed over a memorandum against frequent power outages.
