Mangalore, Nov 4: On Thursday November 3, heavy rain and lightning were experienced in coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka. Untimely rains disrupted normal life and affected traffic. Two rain-related deaths were reported from Mulky and Kundapur respectively.
Huchchappa (25), a native of Bijapur district, was working near the cattle shed of a person named Zubaida behind Mulky bus stand on Thursday, when the wall of the shed suddenly gave way. He was seriously injured, and breathed his last before he could be treated at the government hospital there. The wall had become wet because of overnight rain, it is learnt.
Lightning struck Pavitran (45) from Kerala, who was living in Siddapur in Kundapur taluk since the last two decades, when he was working in Sooralu Estate near Siddapur on Thursday. He was a resident of Janata Colony there, and is survived by wife.
The body of fisherman, Ramesh Shriyan (54), who had drowned due to lightning near Hejmady Kody estuary on Wednesday, was recovered at the same spot on Thursday night. Harischandra Bangera, who too was injured in the incident, is recovering in a hospital.
Lightning inflicted loss of over two lac rupees on Asha Shetty, residing near Manampady school in Mulky, on Wednesday night. Television set, electrical and electronic equipments, pump set, two walls and roof of her house were damaged. Asha also suffered shocks.
The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in the coast during the next two days.
