Madikeri, Nov 3: In a strange incident, the veil of a woman caused the death of her child on Wednesday November 2 evening. The victim has been identified as Bhoomika (11), daughter of Chennaiah and Vishala, living in Mahadeshwar Extension in Somwarpet in the district.
Chennaiah is a driver by profession. When Bhoomika, sixth standard student of SJM School in the town, returned home in the evening, her mother was away shopping. She then started playing in a swing made of her mother’s veil at her home. Soon, the veil got tightened around her throat, and she started to writhe, on being asphyxiated. Her younger brother raised an alarm, upon which her father came running. Bhoomika was admitted into the government hospital in Somwarpet, but was pronounced brought dead.
Bhoomika lost her life within ten minutes of returning from school. Students and teachers of her school made a beeline for her home. A few months back, a six-year-old girl had lost her life at Malambi near Siddapur after she was smothered by the rope of her swing.
