Bangalore, Oct 29: A brief 10-day session of Karnataka Legislature session will be held from December 5 to 16.
The State Cabinet, which met on Friday evening, decided to summon both houses of the State legislature. However, the State Cabinet decided against constituting the Legislature Subject Committees.
Briefing reporters after the State Cabinet meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar and Higher Education V S Acharya said the State Cabinet decided to stick to the present pattern of holding legislature session for 60 days a year as against the demand for holding the session for 100 days in a year.
The Cabinet decided to rename the Organic Farming Mission as Amrutha Bhoomi programme and the committee of the programme would be headed by the Chief Minister. Ministers of Agriculture, Horticulture and Agriculture Marketing would be members of the committee.
The State Cabinet approved grant of administrative approvals for taking up drainage works of Bagepaplli town in Chikballapur district (Rs. 17.14 crore), Chitradurga City (Rs. 96.8 crore), Lakshmeshwar town in Gadag (Rs. 22 crore), and construction work of a district public work complex in Hassan (Rs. 8.21 crore).
Under the prevention of floods programme, the Centre grants 90 per cent of the funds to construct flood control structures under the 11th five year plan.
The Cabinet has approved flood control structure works in Shimoga for prevention of floods from Tungabhadra river (Rs. 55.18 crore); in Holenarasipur for prevention of floods from Hemavathi river (Rs. 25.48 crore), and in Mudhol to prevent floods from Ghataprabha river (Rs. 14.98 crore).
A decision has been taken to provide government grants to 10 first grade colleges run by the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe managements in the State. The decision would cost the exchequer of Rs. 5.2 crore a year, Dr Acharya said.
An administrative approval has been provided to release Rs 19.76 crore for acquisition of lands for road widening between Tumkur and Honnavar (from 212 km to 222 km) on NH 206.
The Cabinet has given approval for Rs. 64 crore canal works to be taken up at Chunchunkatte at K R Nagar in Mysore district.
A decision has been taken to earmark 10 per cent of district judge postings to those who have completed five years of service in civil courts, the Ministers said.
