Beltangady, Jul 2: Heavy rains lashed the taluk on Monday, drawing numerous tourists to Charmadi Ghat in the Western Ghats. Tourists have been seen taking dangerous selfies on the edges of rocks overlooking deep valleys, with these risky acts making waves on social media.
Many tourists venture onto the slippery rocks between the ghat and take selfies, posing a serious risk. A single misstep could result in a fatal accident. Some tourists have even been spotted dancing on these treacherous rocks.
Despite numerous warning signs indicating potential danger, tourists often ignore them. Even with police patrolling the area, tourists resume their risky behaviour as soon as the officers move to another location. When police chase them away from one spot, they simply climb onto another rock.
The media has highlighted the issue of traffic congestion caused by tourists' parked vehicles, but the blockage and inconvenience to other motorists persist.
