Mangalore, Oct 28: Condemning the statement of former mayor of city corporation Shankar Bhat that the DYFI collected Rs 500 each from the protestors who rallied in front of the MCC building a few days ago demanding sites and houses, the DYFI district unit leaders protested in front of the DC’s office on Thursday October 27.
At a council meeting held on Wednesday October 26, Bhat had said that the DYFI collected the money from protestors by providing them copies of applications.
Addressing the protestors today, state vice-president of DYFI Muneer Katipalla said that this statement of Bhat is a tactic to spoil the protest which was authentic.
“Apathy of the concerned officers is opposed by the DYFI and such an irresponsible statement has brought down the respect of the council,” he said. He also demanded an apology from Bhat. Later, an effigy of the former mayor was burnt.
