Udupi, Jun 12: The ewly-elected MP for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Kota Srinivas Poojary, has stressed the need to prioritise the acceleration of highway road works by employing modern techniques and increasing the workforce.
Speaking at a meeting held at the DC office on Wednesday, June 12, Poojary remarked, “The ongoing works from Kalsanka, Indrali Bridge, Karavali Junction to Malpe road, Parkala to Agumbe National Highway work is causing inconvenience to the public due to the slow pace of the workers. To complete the work in a shorter period, officials and contractors need to be actively involved in increasing the speed of the workers.”
Regarding the slow progress at Kalsanka, Poojary said “At Kalsanka, the road worker cannot cover more than 10 meters in a day. This speed is not sufficient to complete the work within the stipulated time frame and creates inconvenience for the public. Engineers need to intervene in this matter.”
Addressing the delays in the Shiroor to Indrali highway works, he added, “The authorities in-charge of Shiroor to Indrali highway works need to speed up the work. For smooth working, the forest department should give permission to cut trees in the area and start the work. There is a need for management of rainwater flow along the sides of the highway from Shiroor to Malpe road. Streetlights need to be managed properly, ensuring safety, to prevent accidents.”
During the meeting, the reconstruction of culverts affected by the highway road workers across the Udupi municipal area was suggested as a solution to mitigate further disruptions.
