Stockholm, Oct 21 (IANS): Frenchman Gael Monfils is the lone seed to survive on a day when three other seeds went out of the Stockholm Open tennis tournament here.
Top seed Monfils won his second round, outlasting fast rising Australian youngster Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 as third seed Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, fourth-seed Argentinean Juan Ignacio Chela and seventh-seed Croat Ivan Dodig were all knocked out Thursday, reported Xinhua.
Monfils next plays fifth-seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the quarterfinals.
Wawrinka lost to Finn Jarkko Nieminen 3-6, 4-6 while Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov eliminated Chela 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to meet Canadian Milos Raonic in the quarterfinals.
Argentina's David Nalbandian had little difficulty in removing Dodig 6-1, 6-1 and his next opponent is American James Blake.
Tobias Kamke comfortably beat Sebastian Rieschick in an all-German clash 6-3, 6-1 and he now meets Nieminen in the quarters.
Dimitrov draws sixth-seed Milos Raonic, Kamke meets Nieminen and Nalbandian plays Blake in the other quarterfinals.
