Keothavong Stuns Ivanovic at Luxembourg


Luxembourg, Oct 21 (IANS): British qualifier Anne Keothavong stunned former World No.1 and fifth seed here Ana Ivanovic of Serbia 6-3, 6-2 at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open tennis tournament.

Ivanovic continues to suffer from a weak serve, particularly the second, and the British youngster fully exploited it in her second round match Thursday, reports Xinhua.

Keothavong's opponent in the quarterfinals is Dutch player Bibiane Schoofs who defeated Rebecca Marino of Canada 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Top seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus had no problems winning her second round match against Italian Alberta Brianti 6-0, 6-1 and she next plays against Czech Iveta Benesova in the quarterfinals.

Sixth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany, the only other seed left, meets in the quarterfinals draws Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, who beat Simona Halep of Romania 6-2, 6-2.

Another Czech girl Lucie Hradecka, who beat Romanian Alexandra Cadantu 6-3, 6-4, runs into another Romanian Monica Niculescu.
