New Delhi, Oct 19: Arrested former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa was being given "five-star treatment while in jail", the Congress said Wednesday.
"BJP's (Bharatiya Janata Party's) handling of Yeddyurappa’s jail and hospital hopping is hypocritical. I want to ask why the state authorities are giving him a preferential treatment in jail," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.
"Only people with good fortune like Yeddy can afford to get five-star treatment while in jail,” Singhvi told reporters here.
“Yeddyurappa feigned illness to avoid being sent to jail. BJP is also shedding crocodile tears on the issue and expects the country to believe what it says,” he added.
Singhvi said Yeddyurappa was reluctant to leave the chief minister's office and when he "left, (he) made a lot of noise and drama".
Yeddyurappa was discharged from a hospital in Bangalore Wednesday and was re-admitted to the jail after senior party leader LK Advani, proceeding with his Jan Chetna campaign, said corruption by partymen was weakening the BJP.
Yeddyurappa was Saturday sent to judicial custody till Oct 22 after his bail was rejected by a special Lok Ayukta court in connection with illegal land denotification cases.
Singhvi said Advani's yatra was also a "five-star affair".
