Mangalore, Oct 18: Rainfall was less in the state’s coast on Monday October 17. Sullia was the only taluk in Dakshina Kannada district to receive heavy rain coupled with lightning on Monday afternoon. Subrahmanya accounted for intermittent drizzle.
Some rain also visited Beltangady and Puttur. Cloudy sky which culminated in light drizzle at night were experienced in Mangalore, Bantwal, Karkala, and Udupi taluks. Kundapur taluk went without any rain.
A coconut tree was burnt down due to lightning, while six houses suffered damages in Kasargod district. Lakshmi (50), wife of Mudda, who was cooking at her home in Bambrana Battery, was injured due to lightning on the night of Sunday. She is being treated as the government cooperative hospital in Kumble. Walls of her house have developed cracks, while wiring system and switch boards were burnt down in the incident. Two more neighbouring houses too developed cracks. Mariamma (42), wife of K C Abdulla in Pookatte Chiruttodi too was injured due to lightning. She was admitted into a private hospital.
After lightning struck the house of Chandrahas Poojary at Bhandarabail in Amblamogaru village on Sunday night, electricity line of the house was burnt down, while a cow and its calf in the cattle shed died. Although the family members also experienced shocks, none of them were injured. Loss of one lac rupees has been assessed in this connection.
The meteorological department has predicted heavy rain in coastal Karnataka, southern hinterland, and various parts of Kerala, during the period till Wednesday morning. In the meanwhile, a low pressure area has developed over Bay of Bengal, it is gathered.
