Udupi, May 16: Under the collaboration of the Horticulture Department, Zilla Panchayat Udupi District and the Ramanagara District Coconut and Mango Farmers Association, the Mango exhibition and sale Fair was inaugurated at the Shivalli Model Horticulture Field, Doddanagudde.
Featuring an array of mango varieties including Banganapalli, Mallika, Alphonso, Badami, Totapuri, Neelam, Raspuri, Malgova, and Amlet, the fair showcases the rich diversity of mango cultivation in the region.
A total of 20 farmers from Ramanagara district are participating in the fair, bringing forth over 40 tonnes of mangoes encompassing more than 10 varieties.
The three-day event aims to provide a platform for farmers to exhibit and sell their produce while offering visitors a delightful experience of tasting and purchasing high-quality mangoes directly from the source.
Speaking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari emphasised the significance of supporting local farmers and encouraged residents of Udupi district to visit the fair, thus fostering community engagement and sustainable agricultural practices.
Despite facing challenges such as adverse weather conditions and climatic changes affecting yields, farmers from Ramanagara expressed their commitment to deliver the finest mangoes from their farms. Their dedication and resilience in the face of adversity underscores the importance of recognising and supporting the efforts of small-scale farmers in contributing to the agricultural landscape of the region.
