Udupi, Oct 17: Well-known lawyer and social worker, R J Matti (91), breathed his last at his residence in Brahmagiri in the town on Thursday October 14. He is survived by wife and six daughters.
Raghu J Matti was born at Mattu near Katapadi. He was famously known as R J Matti. After getting higher education in Mumbai, he joined Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). He studied law simultaneously. For some time, he worked as a teacher of a night school. After retiring as the administrative officer of the local divisional office of LIC, he served as a lawyer. During this period, he got completely involved with social service activities.
Matti functioned as the president of Bannanje Narayana Guru Sangha for ten years and was mainly responsible for the construction of a hall and commercial complex of the Sangha here. He also strived towards getting 25 acres of land for Padubelle Narayana Guru High School, and towards construction of the building for the high school. He had sincerely imbibed the principles preached by Narayana Guru, and remained an ideal social worker till the end.
