Udupi: Mangalore Varsity Bags NSS Award, Dr Gananat Yekkar Gets Top Co-ordinator Award

Udupi, Oct 15: Mangalore University bagged the top University honours in the awards announced by National Social Service and Mangalore University NSS co-ordinator Dr Gananat Yekkar bagged the top co-ordinator award.

The awards will be presented to Mangalore University vice chancellor Professor Shivashankaramurti and co-ordinator Dr Gananat Yekkar in a simple function scheduled to be held at Raj Bhavan, Bangalore, on Monday October 16 in the presence of chief minister D V Sadanand Gowda. 


Mangalore University bagged the top university award from among 25 universities and 3 directorates in the state where NSS programmes are underway.

Dr Yekkar serves as the head of Kannada department at Tenkanidiyoor Government First Grade College and also the NSS co-ordinating officer since three years.  He has been a recipient of the NSS Programme State Award for 22 consecutive years.

 Dr Yekkar served as the chairman of taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat.  He has contributed to Kannada literature and Tulu folk art through his research work.

The NSS unit of Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work, Mangalore, bagged the top unit award and project officer Vinita Rai bagged the top project officer award. Volunteer Diksha of Roshni Nilaya and Apsana Katoon of St Aloysius College, Mangalore, bagged the top volunteers’ state award.
