Udupi, Oct 14: The zonal Agricultural Research Station, Brahmavar, under the jurisdiction of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, will organize ‘Krishi Mela’, a two-day agricultural festival on Sunday October 16 to Monday October 17, in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Brahmavar; department of agriculture, horticulture, watershed department, animal husbandry, sericulture fisheries and forestry, district SKDRDP, and district Krishik Samaja under the sponsorship of the directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Cochin, Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank, and Vijaya Rural Development Foundation, Mangalore.
The chief objective of the event will be to transfer latest agricultural technologies through demonstrations, discussions, field visits in the zonal Agricultural Research Station through seminars, and interactions of scientists with farmers.
State higher education minister Dr V S Acharya will inaugurate the programme.
Dr K Narayan Gowda, vice-chancellor of UAS, Bangalore, will preside over the programme.
MLA K Raghupati Bhat will inaugurate the Krishi Mela exhibition. Seminars on cocoa and other plantation crops of the coastal zone, cashew, and mixed cropping system and paddy-based Integrated Farming System and opportunities for mechanization will be held.
The seminars will be attended by department heads of agriculture and other allied departments, directors of research and extension wing of UAS, Bangalore, scientists from ICAR Research Institutes, zonal Agricultural Research Station, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and progressive farmers as subject matter specialists. Farmers can interact with scientists in the seminars freely address their agricultural issues.
Over 70 stake holders are expected to put up their stalls to show their agriculture technologies and recent farm machineries. The organizers have urged the farmers to participate more and more in number and avail the benefits of Mela.
