Puttur, Oct 12: An argument erupted between MP Naleen Kumar Kateel and SP Labhu Ram here on Tuesday October 11, while making arrangements at the helipad for chief minister Sadananda Gowda's visit to the town.
Labhu Ram, who was in charge of the arrangements, spotted BJP district general secretary Sanjiva Mathandoor, Devidas Shetty and several others who were trying to make their way into the helipad and crossing the line of demarcation. Irked by this violation, the SP told them to stay away.
At this, other BJP leaders, like MLA Padmanabha Kottari, Chanila Timmappa Shetty, Puttur local BJP president Gopalakrishna Herle, state committee member Chandrashekhar Rao Bappalige and others protested.
Naleen Kumar Kateel reportedly was fuming with anger when SP told that they were doing so on the grounds of safety. " You policemen are not capable of catching hold of the naxals but want to stop BJP representatives who wish to welcome their leader. How daring is that?", Kateel questioned on a high pitched tone.
Despite various means of assurances and explanations by the SP, the BJP men did not listen and announced that they would not cooperate and called out the BJP people who were already seated. They threatened that they would take the matter to the CM. Even the words of deputy commissioner Dr Chennappa Gowda had no impact.
However, later, the CM arrived on the spot and handled the situation and convinced his party members.
