Udupi, Apr 19: Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi and MP Sumalatha vigorously campaigned in favour of the BJP in Udupi.
Addressing a press conference following a women's conference in Uppoor, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi rallied support for BJP candidate Kota Srinivas Poojary, highlighting the substantial financial grants and developmental projects initiated under the Modi government.
She emphasised that Karnataka has received unprecedented financial support since Modi took office, citing the state's receipt of over 6,000 crores as evidence. Lekhi praised the Modi government for its contributions to the state's infrastructure and welfare projects.
Lekhi criticised the Congress, accusing it of divisive politics and neglect in development. She pointed to electricity shortages now being mitigated with power supplied from Uttar Pradesh, attributing improvements to CM Yogi Adityanath.
Lekhi also cited the recent Hubballi murder case as an example of deteriorating security under the Congress administration, asserting that progress in basic amenities like sanitation only came with the BJP.
MP Sumalatha Ambarish, addressing the gathering, spoke in Tulu to connect with locals. Sumalatha praised Modi’s selfless service and developmental policies, endorsing Kota Shrinivas Poojary as a man of the people. She emphasised the importance of choosing leadership for progress, citing Modi's vision for 2047 as promising a progressive future for children.
Sumalatha clarified her campaign decisions, citing her independent approach and non-partisan support based on candidate merit. She highlighted her varied campaign history, supporting different parties and candidates based on their integrity and vision rather than party lines.
