Dubai, Oct 9: Young playwright, actor-director Pradeep Barboza's brand new play is all set for its premier show at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School Dubai on Friday, October 14 at 4.30 pm.
Konkan Yuva, as the name suggests, a young and energetic group of Catholic youngsters from the region of Konkan belt of India, have the taken the big task of organising the show. For the first time, Konkan Yuva is venturing into a big event like this, which demands lots of ground work and dedication to make a professional job of it. The Konkan Yuva, led by Stephen Nazareth, has promised to deliver an event that would remain in the memories of theatre lovers in the UAE.
Pradeep Barboza, speaking to Daijiworld said that the new play has a lot to offer, specially in the humour department. "I have put in lots of efforts to entertain the audience with quality comedy. Majority of the audience look for comedy, and thats why I want to present comedy with a good message," says the young director and author of the play.
"I try to convey a message to society, specially to those who spread negative sentiments within family, society, friends' circle and elsewhere. If this small effort can touch the people, my mission is accomplished," says Pradeep whose earlier hit drama 'Sangon Mugdana' was staged in Mangalore, Doha and Kuwait in span of two weeks, apart from dozens of shows by his own team in India and the UAE.
"In Doha our team was invited to stage 'Sangon Mugdana', and MCC Doha was kind enough to provide us the stage. The same play was performed by the local artistes of Kuwait on October 7, and also in Mangalore by artistes there. Going by the response to Konkan theatre, I think there is good future for Konkani stage plays, though many opine that the art is quietly dying," he opines.
"We have put in our best efforts, and our team is practicing hard despite thier family, social and professional commitments. It is not easy to stage a play in the Gulf. You need to dedicate lots of time, and it is not about a single person, but the entire team. Quite often, when a play tastes success, the writer and the director are appreciated. But I think the credit should go to the entire team."
Pradeep is grateful to the organiser of 'Ootre Uzwadlam', Konkan Yuva, whose efforts have brought tremendous response to the play.
Stephen Nazareth, president of Konkan Yuva is confident of running a full house show as the response has been encouraging so far. "Our members have been extremely supportive, and have been spending their quality time for the cause. This platform is turning out to be really useful to youngsters to know each other and come under one roof. With these kind of efforts, we are sure of staging a successful event on this Friday," he says.
He also urged the audience to be on time at the venue so that the event can run on schedule.
