Mangalore, Oct 8: St Aloysius College with a new scheme of Management Merit Scholarships, honoured meritorious students who have taken admissions in post-graduation programmes in the college for the year 2011-12 on Friday October 7.
Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, principal of St Aloysius College (autonomous) honoured the students. Fr Walter Andrade SJ, finance officer, handed over the prizes.
In order to attract academically talented students to its PG programmes, the College Management had decided to institute Management Merit Scholarships from the academic year 2011. As a result, a number of meritorious students from various parts of the country with high percentages have opted to study in the College. Consequently, it raises the quality of the class and academic programme, he said.
These scholarships are given to any graduate of any discipline like BA, B Sc, B Com, BBM, BCA, etc, with a high percentage in their under graduate examinations, and who opt to pursue their education at masters level at St Aloysius College, here.
The M Sc students who are eligible to these scholarships, get Rs 20,000 and arts and commerce students get Rs 15,000 scholarships in the first year of their post graduation. Any PG programme with 30 and more students in it is eligible to get two scholarships among its toppers, whereas PG programme with less than 30 students attracts one scholarship for its topper.
The students who were honoured are Tanya Pereira (MCMS), Jayaprakash (MSW), Alita Farias (MSW), Divina Lobo (MSc in maths), Joel Cornelio (MSc in analytical chemistry), Rachana K (MSc in Biotechnology), Noorain Shaikh (MSc in Biotechnology), Arogyamma Kalaghatgi ( MA in Economics), Dheeraj Shetty (MA in Economics), Aayshath Schemnad (MA in Eng), Viola Pereira (MA in Eng), Renita Gonsalves (MCom) and Gayathri K (MCom).
