Bantwal, April 8: A public meeting of the Lokayukta was held at the Taluk panchayat auditorium on B C Road on Monday, April 8, which was presided over by Lokayukta DySP Gana Kumari.
She said the department has come to know of a network posing as Lokayukta inspector which calls up the officers and forces them to pay money. “A similar incident came to light at Ullal and legal action has been taken against the accused. Incidents such as these should be brought to the notice of the department if they occur in other taluks so that legal cases may be registered against them,” she said.
Lokayukta inspector Amanulla said that Raitha Sangha campaigner Subrahmanya Bhat has requested Tahsildar Archana Bhat removal of sand that has got accumulated in front of the Tumbe vented dam that supplies water to Mangaluru City Corporation.
“Rainwater is likely to be used for cultivation on both sides of the dam during the monsoon causing huge loss to agricultural activity. Dredging work should be performed on both sides of the dam so that cultivation may be protected.”
Tahsildar Archana Bhat in her reply said that the work needs to be done by the department of mining and geology and Mangaluru City Corporation should manage the dam. “Therefore, the matter will be brought to the notice of the department of mining and geology,” she said, assuring of solving the issue.
Panemangalore resident Sudesh Mayya has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta that the municipal council harasses him by denying receipt for house tax that he had paid. The officer has been told to issue the receipt within an hour.
Shyam Sunder Rao complained about a commercial building coming up illegally without permission at Mayyarabailu, municipal council limits. Lokayukta asked officials to take a clear stand.
Lokayutha officials obtained details from Corporation engineer Dominic D’ Mello with regard to a complaint that there had been no response to the request made to hand over a room of a commercial building on B C Road private bus stand to Gangadhar belonging to backward class and backward tribe and the tender was issued without informing the applicant.
Eight complaints were received during the meeting and the officials responded to all of them.
Tahsildar Archana Bhat, inspector Amanulla A, Chandrashekar K N, Chandrashekar C L, staff Mahesh Balaraj, Ganganna, Rudregowda, Pampanna and E O Rahul Kamble were present.
