Udupi: World Health Day Observed at Kasturba Hospital Manipal

Udupi, Apr 8: “Every year 7th of April is celebrated as World Health Day across the world. Its main objective is to create awareness among the general public about good health. The theme of the year 2024 is "My Health My Right” underscores the imperative that access to essential health services should be regarded not as a privilege, but as a fundamental human right.

At the forefront of the day's activities stood the hospital's nursing team, who took to the streets with a fervent determination to engage the community in health discourse. Through dynamic street plays staged in front of the Outpatient Department (OPD), the nursing team captivated audiences, delivering key messages on health promotion and disease prevention.

Simultaneously, within the hospital premises, a free health check-up camp was organized, extending a lifeline of healthcare accessibility to individuals from all walks of life. This initiative underscored Kasturba Hospital Manipal's unwavering commitment to ensuring that healthcare remains a fundamental right for every individual.

On this occasions Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital said, “Earlier there was a need to create awareness among people about infectious diseases and communicable diseases but now there is a need to create more on prevention of non-communicable and lifestyle diseases, diabetes, heart disease, kidney, Cancer etc. Kasturba Hospital Manipal has always been at the forefront in such work."

The combined efforts of the nursing team, healthcare professionals, and volunteers culminated in a resounding success, with scores of individuals benefiting from the free health check-up program. More than 1000 people benefited from this programme.
