Karwar, Apr 6: The episcopal ordination and solemn installation of Msgr Duming Dias, bishop-elect of diocese of Karwar will take place on April 9 at St Joseph's High School Ground, Kodibag Road, Kajubag, Karwar at 9 am.
Dr Peter Machado, archbishop of archdiocese of Bangalore is the main consecrator. Dr Derek Fernandes, bishop of diocese of Belgaum and Dr Francis Serrao SJ are the co-consecrators.
A good number of priests, religious and lay faithful are expected for this historic event of diocese of Karwar.
Pope Francis appointed Fr Duming Dias as bishop of diocese of Karwar on January 13 earlier this year.
Msgr Duming Dias was born on September 13, 1969, in Honnavar in Karwar diocese. He studied philosophy at St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary in Bengaluru and theology at St Joseph's Inter Diocesan Seminary at Jeppu, Mangaluru.
He received a bachelor of arts from Bangalore University, a bachelor of education from Kuvempu University, and a master’s degree from Karnataka State Open University.
Bishop Dias was ordained a priest on May 6, 1997. He has held the positions as assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Shimoga (1997-1998); assistant parish priest of Davanagere (1998-1999); parish priest of St Francis Xavier in Kable (1999-2001); director of the Biblical, Catechesis and Liturgy Commission (2001-2012); principal of Sacred Heart College in Shimoga (2002-2012); parish priest of Mary Immaculate in New Town Bhadravathi (2002-2007); director of Lourdes Boys’ School in Davanagere (2012-2014); director of the SCC Commission and coordinator of the Diocesan Commissions (2012-2014); associate director of St John’s Medical College in Bengaluru (2014-2021); coordinator of the diocesan commissions and director of the commission for the family and since 2021, director of Sannidhi Pastoral Renewal Center, Shivamogga.
