Karkala, Mar 30: The Udupi team clinched the championship title, with the Karkala team securing the runner-up position in the Udupi District-level Journalists' Volleyball Tournament organized by the Karkala Taluk Working Journalists Association. The event took place at the Jnanasudha College ground in Karkala Kukkundur as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association.
Individual awards were presented to Anil Kairangala from the Udupi team and Prajwal and Uday Mundkur from the Karkala team. Teams from Udupi A and B, Karkala, and Kundapur participated in the tournament. Dr Sudhakar Shetty, chairman of the Ajekaru Padmagopal Education Trust, distributed prizes to the winning teams during the closing ceremony.
The tournament was inaugurated by Dr Ravindra Shetty Bajagoli, president of the Karnataka State Quarry and Crushers Association, who extended his best wishes for the event. International athlete Rohit Kumar Kateel launched the tournament.
Dr Sudhakar Shetty, chairman of the Ajekaru Padmagopal Education Trust, and Mohan Shetty, manager of the Sales and Marketing Department of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, graced the occasion as chief guests. Muhammad Sharif, President of the Karkala Taluk Journalists Association, presided over the event.
Various dignitaries including Dinesh Kodavoor, principal of Jnanasudha Education Institute; Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, district president of the Working Journalists Association; Nazir Polya, general secretary; Umesh Marpalli, District Committee member; Uday Mundkur, Taluk Association secretary; Harish Acharya, Taluk Association secretary; and Khalil Karkala, treasurer, were also in attendance.
The program commenced with a prayer by Vasudeva Bhat, followed by a warm welcome extended by Krishna Naik. Balakrishna Bhimaguli proposed the vote of thanks, while Harish Sachcheripet efficiently compered the event.
