Udupi, Oct 4: Thieves made away with jewellery worth nearly Rs 4 lac from a jeweller’s house in Udyavar, near here, on Sunday October 2.
Krishna Acharya is the owner of Navaratna Jewellery Shop in Udyavar and was residing nearby on NH 66.
He had gone to Suratkal, to attend ‘puja’ celebrations at his relative’s house on Sunday evening and returned only on Monday October 3. The theft came to light when Acharya returned home along with his family.
The thieves broke open the main door and stole all the jewellery of Krishna’s wife Sushma and their two children. They broke open the locks of different almirahs in the house and took away about 221.5 gm gold ornaments, 200 gm silver valuables, and Rs 15,000 kept in he almirah, a silver idol and a plate altogether worth nearly Rs 4 lac it is gathered.
Udupi district superintendent of police (SP), Dr Ravikumar, assistant SP, Venkiateshappa, Kaup circle inspector, Cheluvaraju, Kaup crime sub-inspector of police, Girish Kumar, and other personnel visited the spot and guided the investigations. Kaup station house officer, Mohan Kottary, registered a case in this connection. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs also were summoned to the spot to scout for evidences.
