Mangalore: Infosys Wins City's First Corporate Women's Cricket Tourney

Mangalore, Oct 3: Infosys won the first Women’s Cricket Tourney “Advaith Hyundai BIG FM Navras Cup” organized by 92.7 BIG FM as part of Navarathri celebration at Urwa Cricket Ground on Sunday October 2.

It was Mangalore's first Women's Cricket match that brought together four corporate women's cricket teams- Infosys, Mphasis, Diya Systems and Invengers. Each team had nine on-field players and two
substitutes.

The first prelims held between team Mphasis and team Infosys where team Infosys won by 31 runs and got into finals. The second prelim was between team Invengers and team Diya Systems where team Invengers made a way to the finals.

A third prelim was held between team Mphasis and team Diya systems where team Diya systems won by 42 runs and 7 wickets.

Commissioner of Police Seemanth Kumar Singh and Geetha Nayak, deputy mayor of Mangalore City Municipal Corporation were the chief guests on the occasion.

The finals held between team Infosys and team Invengers where team Infosys scored 112 off 5 overs, against team Invengers and won by 67 runs. It was a hatrick win for team Infosys as they had the rains of 15 - six and 3 four’s by the team players Preema D’souza and Ashlyn which was the hardscore for the opposition.

Overall match was of 5 overs for the 3 prelims and 6 overs for the finals. BCCI National Panel Umpire Hari Govind and KSCA Umpire Sandip umpired the match. Shaman was the scorer for the cricket tournament. Commentory was given by Sudeep for the tourney.

Presenting the prizes for the winners Seemanth Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Police congratulated the winners and appreciated the unique initiative by 92.7 BIG FM.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak congratulated the team for their participation and winning the match. She also appreciated the initiative by Team 92.7 BIG FM which gives a call for the social activity through their different initiatives.

Team leaders from all the teams opined their experiences and appreciated the Team 92.7 BIG FM for organizing such a event.

Delivering the message Melvin, sales manager of Advaith Hyundai the title sponsor of the event congratulated the teams for their participation and winning the match.

Station head of 92.7 BIG FM Jagadish and Team BIG FM were present on the occasion.

    Yes, it was indeed a good tournament. Also read the title carefully. It is "City's First CORPORATE Women's Cricket".
    Its indeed wonderful to know that Dr. M.V.Shetty college of Physiotherapy have been organizing women's cricket tournament for 16 years in Mangalore city.

    Must be a good tournament. Funny to see the players with shorts.
    I would like to remind the organizers and the Daijiworld that this is not the first women,s cricket tournament in the city. Dr. M.V.Shetty college of Physiotherapy have been organizing women's cricket tournament for 16 years in Mangalore city with participation of 10 teams.
