Mangaluru, Mar 9: A fire incident occurred opposite St Lawrence Church in Bondel on Saturday, March 9.

Initially, locals nearby perceived the fire as normal, but as it started to escalate and smoke filled the area, they alerted the firefighters. Responding swiftly, the firefighters rushed to the location and successfully brought the spilling fire under control. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. However, the pipes belonging to GAIL, laid down on the road, were completely burnt in the blaze.

Upon discussing the incident with the firefighters, they informed Daijiworld that the fire did not appear to be natural. It seemed to be a deliberate act, possibly ignited by matchsticks or other means.

Despite the fire's potential to spread, the combined efforts of the firefighters and nearby locals prevented it from engulfing the nearby woods.

How can any gas utility company release highly inflammable gas in the pipeline without first doubly foolproof testing of the pipeline atleast at 125%+ the rated capacity? Secondly, it's impossible for a drunkard or common man to ignite gas from a sealed pipeline without drilling holes that too with a special toolbit as gas pipes are manufactured to very stringent specifications unlike water supply pipelines 🙃🙃!! Speaks volumes of the technical prowess of the engineering company executing this job; they need to be felicitated 😁!!

Is this the way fuel gas pipelines are laid above on the roadside exposing it to the elements? Any gas pipeline welder/technician who has worked in a Gulf country can tell this is just crazy work done by some andu pandu contractor....🤣.......and how can someone with matchstick ignite a fire in a sealed and pressure checked gas pipeline unless there was gas leakage and someone accidentally threw an ignited matchstick (cinder); still catching fire is very rare as the gas leakage is an open area and not an enclosed space? BTW; even in one of the most densely populated cities like Mumbai where most houses are provided with piped gas, which is damn cheap and extremely clean flame compared to LPG cylinders (breakdown time is almost Nil throughout the year for the utility supplier) such type of accidents never occur... another feather on the cap of the technical experts who have done this sloppy job putting at risk innocent people; also in the picture one can see some building activities going on in the place (one hoarding is visible prominently)???😔😔🙏🙏

If Pipes are safe or not is not important.Pipes can be bought but not any human life Thats important that noone came to harm. Before we make anyone responsible for fire ,we must remember ,when it is hot and sun rays fall on dry leaves ,it burns automatically .May be someone threw some cigarette rest on dry leaves?Thank God it was only blaze ,no further casualty.

LPG cylinders are safer, if at all there is a leak one should not start any switch or anything that produces a spark, then keep the cylinder in the open. In piped gas if it leaks inside a house ( fortunately in this case it was outside) or in an appartment complex, one would have to wait until the company person comes ( and you know that they do not respond quickly and sometimes never respond).
