Mangaluru, Mar 8: Lokayukta officials caught a land surveyor red-handed in the city as he accepted a bribe of Rs 4000 from a citizen in exchange for providing a land sketch.
Sheetalraj S G, the accused, hails from Neermarga and was apprehended by Lokayukta authorities. The incident unfolded when a citizen, acting on behalf of Lilly Vaz, applied online for a Tatkal Podi in the RTC section of the DC office under the name of Stella Janet Vaz. A government fee of Rs 1500 was paid, and a receipt was obtained.
On February 29, Sheetalraj conducted a survey of the land and then demanded a bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant in return for providing the sketch. After negotiation, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 4000. Promptly informed, the complainant reported the incident to Lokayukta authorities, leading to Sheetalraj's arrest while accepting the bribe.
The operation was directed by Lokayukta SP C A Simon, with DySP Chaluvaraju B, Dr. Gana P Kumar, Inspector Amanullah, and Suresh Kumar actively participating.
