Udupi, Sep 28: Fear of exams can sometimes make children go to extreme levels. While some, out of intense pressure, choose to end lives, some others take a more creative and compatively less harmful path.
In Chandrashekhar, son of Shivanand who is originally from Gadag and presently residing in Atradi in the district, fear of exams sparked off his imagination to such an extent that he claimed being abducted by strangers. Not only that, his tale was elaborately woven too.
He said that he had been kidnapped by unknown persons who approached him on Monday September 26 on the pretext of asking directions. "They forced me into a Maruti Swift car from Hiriyadka and were moving ahead via Dharmasthala. When the vehicle was stopped by those in the car for relieving themselves, I gave them a slip," he told the Dharmasthala police after approaching them on Tuesday September 27 morning.
Chandrashekhar is a student of Hiriyadka Junior College. He was admitted to Beltangady government office. Some police personnel from Hiriyadka went to Beltangady and brought him here. However, on further questioning, Chandrashekhar spilled the beans.
The student was finding science subjects a hard nut to crack. In spite of trying hard, he found it impossible to understand these subjects. On Monday, he found the question paper to be very tough, which made him stressful and panicky. He directly went to Karkala and boarded a bus to Dharmasthala, where he created a story to convince his parents. The police, stunned by the boy's tale and his ability to concoct a kidnapping drama, said that boy did so because of his aversion towards examinations.
Chandrashekhar's parents, who had come to Hiriyadka police station on Tuesday to take him home, said that their son suffers from bouts of asthma attacks now and then, and that he comes under tremendous mental pressure on these occasions. They feel that the boy would have chosen to go elsewhere rather than returning home, because of this pressure.
