Beltangady: Road Accident Claims Engineering Student’s Life

Beltangady, Sep 28: Pruthvi (19), a student of Sahyadri Engineering College here, and native of Madikeri, died in an accident that occurred on national highway at Moorje in Pilatabettu near Punjalakatte in the taluk on Tuesday September 27 afternoon. He was the son of Prakash Gowda from Madikeri.
Pruthvi and eight other students of the same college had left for Charmadi Ghat on Monday evening for a pleasure trip and trekking. On Tuesday, these nine students were returning to Mangalore, when the bike driven by Prathvi collided with a truck going to Mangalore on a road bend in Moorje.
Pruthvi, who suffered severe head injuries, died on the spot. The pillion rider, Ashit Rai, who sustained injuries to chest and legs, was shifted to a hospital in Mangalore after providing preliminary treatment at Punjalkatte primary health centre.
The truck driver escaped from the accident spot. The motor bike-borne students also chose to go away. One of these bikes got stranded at Vogga after its engine developed snags. The policemen, who got information about these students, summoned them to police station and collected information about the deceased students. The truck was confiscated.
Punjalkatte sub-inspector of police, Madhava Koodlu, has registered a case and begun investigation.
