Citizens in Mangalore, Udupi Pour into Streets for a Healthy Heart

Mangalore, Sep 25: KMC Hospital in the city for the seventh consecutive year marked the ‘World Heart Day’ with a run from KMC Bejai to KMC hospital Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle here on Sunday September 25.
The run which passed through Lalbaug - MG Road - PVS Circle - Bunts Hostel Circle was flagged off at 7 am.
Former cricketer and current KSCA secretary Javagal Srinath inaugurated the event.
Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister, Nalin Kumar, MP, Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of legislative assembly, Seemanth Kumar Singh, police commissioner, Dr G K Prabhu, registrar, Manipal University took part.
International athlete Reeth Abraham was the torch bearer. Speaking on the occasion, she said that it was important to balance one's diet and exercise regrulary to maintain a healthy heart. She called upon the participants to lead an active life and realize the importance of being healthy.
Srinath lauded the efforts of the organisers in holding the event and creating awareness among people regarding health and heart. He too stressed on the importance of exercising regularly.
Dr Sunil Deshpande, Sr VP Operations and Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital, Mangalore, Major General Dr G Rajagopal, dean, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore were present. Good number of public participation marked the success of the event.
Prizes were distributed for participants for the best corporate participation (BASF), best placard (Hindustan Unilever), best slogan shouting (Coast Guards), best institution participation (Sahyadri College of Nursing), and youngest and the oldest participants (Vridhem and Ramanna Raikar).

Udupi, Sep 25: World Heart Day 2011 'Walk for Heart' was jointly organised by Hi Tech Medicare Hospital, Dhanwanthari College of Nursing, Shi Krishna Charitable Trust Udupi, Milagreas College Kallianpur, Rotary Club Kallianpur, JCI Kallianpur, And Giants Group Udupi on Sunday September 25.
Industrialist Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the walk near Hi Tech Hospital, Ambalpady. The walk passed through the national highway 66 till Santhekatte junction. A distance of neary 7 km was covered by the students and the Rotary, JCI members.
At the valedictory function Dr Umesh Naik of Hi Tech Hospital and the member of Shree Krishna charitable Trust presided over the function. Dr R N Bhat, Prathiba Barges, principal of Dhanwanthari College of Nursing Udupi, Shekar Poojar, president of JCI, Kallianpur, Ravi Acharya, president of Rotary Kallianpur, Tejaswari Rao, Joseph Peter Fernandes of Milagres College Kallianpur, Annama, Vital Naik, Radika, Shakuthala Poojar of Milagres College were present on the dais.
Dr R N Bhat in his speech highlighted the purpose behind the event. "The heart starts growing in the womb in the 4th week, and continues to beat for 60 to 100 years. Heart diseases start from the age of 30 onwards," he said.
Shekar Poojar welcomed the gathering, Uday gave the vote of thanks, JCI Nagaraj G S compered the programme.
