Mangalore, Sep 24: In protest against the failure of the policemen in tracking the murderers of taxi driver, Govardhan, about a month back, a procession and protest demonstration were organized in the city on Friday September 23 by Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Krishnappa faction). It may be recalled that the body of Govardhan, whose taxi was hired by unknown persons on August 25, was found abandoned under shrubs two days later.
Govardhan was a dalit. Hundreds of people, who came in a procession from Light House Hill in the city to the office of the district deputy commissioner here, shouted slogans against the police department for its failure to trace the culprits who killed Govardhan. State convener of the Samiti, Satya Bhadravati, addressing the protestors in front of the office of the DC, warned that a protest by way of laying siege to the office of the police commissioner by protestors with brooms in their hands will be organized if the killers are not nabbed within 15 days.
He also warned that the movement of state Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, will be obstructed in the district, in pursuance of the above demand.
State organizing convener of the Samiti, M Devadas, Shekhar Hejmady, Srinivasa, Sundar Ullal, and others were present.
