Mangalore: Student from Manipur Meets Watery Grave at Tannirbavi

Mangalore, Sep 23: A student named Sorevung (19) drowned at Tannirbavi beach near Panambur here on Thursday September 22. He was from Tushar village in Manipur state. Sorevung had visited the beach along with his classmates, and was dragged into the sea by the currents.

The student stayed in the hostel here. The mid-term examinations were to begin on Friday.

The ill-fated student was a second year BSc degree student of St Aloysius College in the city. He was accompanied by his classmates, Nagaraj, Babish, Pratik, and Chandan.

Sorevung entered the sea along with some of his friends who knew swimming, and was ahead of them. He suddenly got pulled away by the currents in the sea, and though his friends tried their best to save him, they did not succeed.

Local fishermen, who then began a search operation, recovered the body of the student after about two hours. A case was registered in this connection at Panambur police station.

    i really dont think youngsters would heed to the strict measures adopted by college authorities nd parents.  wat they should know and learn is safety measures. they should know the dos and donts.and should take precautionary measures.enjoyment and fun is necessary.. but we should take care that day of fun does'nt turn out to be a day marked by ill fate. second life lost from the same college in 2 years owing to the same reason.. may his soul rest in peace..amen

    Tannirbavi and Panambur beach has taken lives of several youngsters. I do recall from my college days in Mangalore. Why the MCC with loads of intellectuals cannot install directives in BIG BOLD letters - UNSAFE BEACH FOR SWIMMING.

    The local police should have a vigilance on the panambur beach.Public awareness on the beach through proper guidelines will reduce the accident to the most.Posting proper singboards on the danger site help the newcomers to reduce the risk to thier life to an extent.

    A YOUNG BOY LOST HIS LIFE FOR NO REASON.

    PARENTS SHOULD EDUCATE ABOUT DO'S & DO NOT'S PROPERLY BEFORE SENDING FOR SATY IN HOSTELS.

    COLLEGE & HOSTEL AUTHORITIES ALSO SHOULD CHECK ACTIVITIES OF THEIR STUDENTS & SHOULD GUIDE THEM .

    FRIENDS WHO KNEW THE SWIMMING ARE AT FAULT. THEY SHOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO ADVANCE IN THE SEA.

    A sincere request to all school and college authorities to convey strict instructions to all its students not to indulge in playing or swimming in Arabian sea. Mangalore sea is dangerous even for expert swimmers. Let us save precious lives.
