Bangalore, Sep 22 (IANS): The Karnataka High Court Thursday put off for two weeks the hearing on the bail application of leading Kannada actor Darshan, facing allegations of assaulting his wife.
Public Prosecutor Chandramouli told the court that he needed two weeks to present his objections to the bail application filed by the actor.
The court accepted his request and postponed the hearing for two weeks.
Darshan was arrested Sep 9 after his wife, Vijayalakshmi, gave a five-page complaint to police detailing the beatings she had suffered.
She said Darshan also pointed a revolver at her and threatened to kill her and the couple's three-year-old son Vineesh.
But within hours, she changed her statement to say she was injured from a fall in the bathroom and not due to any beating by Darshan. The police have refused to accept this.
The high court's decision to put off the hearing has dashed the hopes of many of Darshan's fans who were expecting the actor's release from jail before Sep 29, when his new film "Sarathy" would hit the screens.
Darshan was discharged from hospital Wednesday and was immediately sent to Parappana Agrahaara Jail.
Darshan was in Parappana Agrahara jail in east Bangalore for only one night after his arrest as he complained of wheezing. He was also found to be suffering from jaundice.
He was treated for nine days at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases here and discharged Wednesday.
He was taken back to the jail as the session court Tuesday rejected his bail plea.
Two lower court earlier declined to accept Vijayalakshmi's revised statement and rejected Darshan's bail plea.
