Bangalore: Jayasrikrishna Samiti Meets CM to Discuss UPCL Eco Issues

Bangalore, Sep 21: A delegation of Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (JSKPPS), a NGO engaged in empowering rural youth in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district and its integral development, led by founder president Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty, met chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda here, recently.
 
The delegation discussed issues concerning the sufferings of people residing in the villages surrounding Padubidri, where the power plant of Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) is located.

The delegation urged Gowda to instruct the officers to take appropriation measures in addressing the grievances of locals.
 
JSKPPS district vice-president K P Jagadish Adikari, Mumbai’s labour and social activist Felix A D’Souza Taccode, former state minister B Nagaraj Shetty, former MLA A Rukmaya Poojary, NRI entrepreneur Frank Fernandes, and Bangalore entrepreneur Clifford Mascarenhas were part of the delegation.

    UPCL has destroyed environment and ecology of the area surrounding it. It is high time that the Chief Minister who is elected from the area take immediate steps to close down the project instead of waiting for the intervention of the Supreme court. Its a biggest blunder of the present government. There is no alternative than closing the unit which has ruined lives of the local people.

    I would like to protest until death against the UPCL. Want all Anna followers to join me.(I dont belong to any party) The fast will start on October 2nd near the main gate of the plant. Require support from all people who have been affected by this project. I have already sent the invitation to the media namely NDTV, Times Now and Star News.

    Samithi Which Supported coal base power plant for their own intrest when villages surrounding Padubidri are for gas based power plant.

    Dave you said the right thing. This so called Samithi was hand in glove with UPCL while all other people were opposing it during the construction. It is possible that even now UPCL is buying time through this Samithi.

    When every Environmenatlist Organisations where fighting to stop the UPCL- this Samithi supported the power plant arguing that it had all the latest safety measures which are environment friendly.
    Now thse people are trying to cover their hand in glove acts for gain with the company by these acts of eye wash.
    Nothing will be achieved as nobody can stop this pollution except the Supreme Court as it did in the case of mining disaster the state was subjected to by the govt. itself.
