London: Vaz Sisters script history with Konkani performance at 75th Republic Day

London, Jan 28: The 75th Republic Day was held in the High Commission of India, London, UK. It was matter of a great honour and proud moment as a Konkani song was presented for the first time at the official Republic Day celebrations at the High Commission of India, London, UK on January 26 by the Vaz sisters, who are known as melodious Konkani stars Lanisha and Delisha. Clayton António Barreto, who works as a social secretary to the High Commissioner, has proposed their names for the approval, and due to his relentless efforts, it was approved by High Commission's competent authority. So, Lanisha and Delisha were invited by the High Commission of India in London, UK to perform for the special celebrations. 

The programme started with Indian flag unfurling by the high commissioner with national anthem, followed by his speech and later a cultural programme was held which featured presentations from different states of India. 

Before the start of the song, Delisha speaks about the song. “The message of the song is quite simple and timeless, we may be from different states, speak different languages and we may be Christian, Muslims, Hindus, or Sikhs, but at the end of the day, we are all united together as one, as Indians, the song was originally composed and sung by Goan legend, and melody king, late Alfred Rose Ami Soglim EK

The audience were enthralled by Lanisha and Delisha Goan song, and they applauded their performance. A proud moment for the global Konkani community. 

The special guest of the celebrations was versatile Bollywood Actor, Boman Irani and he showed all praises on the Vaz sisters for their melodious singing, and they were unexpectedly acknowledged by the special guest and made them to sing some line of the song again and further discussed the meaning behind the song and its message of unity. This is the second time Vaz sisters performed at the High Commission of India, London, UK. 

Lanisha and Delisha, along with their parents would like to say thanks to Clayton Antonio Barreto for his relentless efforts and to the high commission team. 

Lanisha and Delisha Vaz, the Vaz sisters, are singers and musicians and they were born and brought up in Dubai, now resident in London, UK, Lanisha, and Delisha, are talented daughters of Pascoal Vaz from Vasco, Goa and Laveena Vaz belongs to Bondel parish Mangaluru.

Lanisha and Delisha started their singing and music career at the tender age of 6. And they have performed in Dubai, Sharjah, Bahrain, Kuwait, Goa, Mangalore Parish, USA and London. They have performed in more than 100 shows which includes Goan Tiatr, musical shows (Mangalorean and Goan) recorded their voices in 16 Konkani DVD, VDs and TV shows. Lanisha and Delisha along with their parents had come out with their debut AMCHI GIRESTKAI (DVD/ ACD) Konkani Album year of 2019.These talented sisters sing in Konkani and English and they have won many prizes and Awards. They have been felicitated many times for their contribution for our Mai Bhas Konkani.
