Mangalore, Sep 18: District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar has announced Rs 1 lac compensation for the families of missing fishermen and Rs 25,000 for injured fishermen.
At a meeting convened by fishermen at ‘Mathsya Gandhi’ near old port here on Saturday September 17, he said that the details about boat mishap has been brought to the notice of chief minister. He has also instructed to compensate, he said.
Dredging work in Alive Bagilu will be carried out soon after the rain recedes at the cost of Rs 4.60 crore. The tender procedures for installing signals are over. It will be completed soon, he assured.
Palemar also lashed out at the NMPT officials’ negligence act during the difficult times of fishermen in the sea. If those were allowed to enter NMPT, the tragedy would have not occurred, he said.
Dy Speaker Yogish Bhat said that NMPT officials should have considered the request of fishermen on humanity basis during their crisis period. He added the extension work of port in Mangalore at the cost of Rs 57 cr is on final phase. Fisheries board president Nithin Kumar, DDP of fisheries dept Suresh Kumar, Parseen boat fishermen union president Naveen Karkera, honorary president Umesh Karkera, Captain Mohan were present.
