Udupi: Excise Department Destroys 9,000 Litres of Liquor Worth Rs 10 lac

Udupi, Sep 16: The excise department destroyed 9,000 litres of liquor worth Rs 10 lac, by pouring it into Alevoor Bendurkatte river, near here on Friday September 16 evening.
The excise department officials had seized a truckload of liquor, containing 252 cans at Hebri near here in August 2010. The truck bore a fake number plate of Haryana, which will be auctioned shortly.
The officials destroyed the stock as per the orders of the court, for which they had been waiting until now.
Excise DC Somayya, deputy superintendent Gurumurti, inspector Soumyalata, sub-inspector Narayan, excise personnel Divakar, Sudhakar, Ravindranath, Pundalik Upadhyaya, Venkataprasad Golla, Home Guards personnel Dinesh and Uday Kulal were involved in this operation.
