Mangalore, Sep 15: Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, whose Tulu movie 'Oriyadori Asal' set a record of sorts by completing more than 100 successful days at the theatres, told reporters here on Thursday September 15 that his film has tried to change trends in Tulu cinema.
Speaking at a 'Meet the Press' programme, he said that lack of financial backing in Tulu movie industry had hitherto resulted in poor quality of films, but 'Oriyardori Asal' has proved that Tulu cinema too can attract audience in large numbers, which will in turn encourage producers to pool in more finance. The movie had provided a much-needed boost to Tulu cinema, he added.
He further said that he is now looking forward to the day when his movie would complete 150 days at the theatres. The movie is on the 112th day of its running, as of Thursday.
He hoped that the success of 'Asal' would lead to production of better, more technologically advanced Tulu films in the future. He also informed that already eight new Tulu movies have been registered for production.
Kodialbail said that the film has recovered nearly 80 percent of the production cost and will soon make profits. In Jyothi theatre alone, the film has made collections of Rs 30-40 lacs, he said. As people enjoy humour, the comedy incorporated in the movie might have been the primary reason for its success, he added.
On the issue of Tulu's inclusion in the eighth schedule of the Constitution, he blamed politicians for not taking enough interest in the matter and working towards this end. He urged the people of the region to put pressure on the local politicians to achieve the task.
Naveen Padil said that people's support was everything for the success of any movie, and entreated people to keep encouraging Tulu movies in the future also.
Among those present were actor Santhosh Shetty, director Rajashekar, music director A K Vijaya, president of Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union P B Harish Rai, and its secretary Srinivas Indaje.
