Bangalore, Sep 15: The ban on multi-lingual actress Nikitha, imposed by the Kannada Film Producers Association has been lifted.
Speaking at press meet here on Thursday September 15, producer Muniratna said that the three-year ban had been lifted on the advise of Parvathamma Rajkumar and other film personalities.
Muniratna also tendered an apology to the actress.
Nikitha had been banned for three years in connection for her alleged affair with cine actor Darshan, who has been accused of wife beating and is in custody. Darshan’s wife Vijayalakshmi had stated in her complaint that Nikitha was the reason for the couple’s marital discord.
Following the ban, Sandalwood producer Parvathamma Rajkumar had questioned the dictatorial attitude of the association.
While advising the association to immediately lift the ban on Nikitha, Parvathamma condemned its hurried action without giving an opportunity to Nikitha to express her stand, views and opinions. She sternly told the association that two or three office bearers of the association cannot decide the future of Kannada filmdom.
"The usual course is to invite all the concerned for talks, and find an amicable solution to the problem. In the case of Nikitha, this was not resorted to. Such actions bring bad name for Kannada filmdom. If we resort to such unjust practices, what will the people of movie industry from other language think of us?" she questioned.
In a veiled threat, she had even warned that the Kannada producers may opt to create a parallel organization to protect the interests of the artistes and the movie industry, if the association remains adamant on its decision to ban Nikitha.
