Jan 15: For the first time, an officer said, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be used to pick the top marching group in this year's Army Day Parade in Lucknow. Major General Salil Seth, who is in charge of the parade, told PTI, "For the first time, we're employing Artificial Intelligence to select the top marching contingent. All the contingents perform their drills accurately. The previous Army Day Parade took place in Bengaluru on January 15.

Major General Salil Seth, the General Officer Commanding of the Madhya UP Sub Area in Lucknow, explained, "Drills have a specific way of being performed - lifting your hands and legs to a set height, and moving with your weapon in a given time frame."

Army Day is celebrated on January 15 to mark the historic event when General KM Cariappa (later Field Marshal) assumed control of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Roy Bucher, the final British Commander-in-Chief in 1949, making him the first Indian Commander-in-Chief after Independence.

This day honours the courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment of the Indian Army in safeguarding the nation's security. The Indian Army annually hosts its Army Day parade on January 15, with this year's event taking place in Lucknow.

The Indian Army is slowly changing into a more modern force. They are planning to use new strategies that include adding drones and anti-drone systems to their infantry, artillery, and armoured battalions.

Furthermore, to address other traditional gaps, the army has designated 2024 as the "Year of Technology Integration" and will set up Command Cyber Operations Support Wings (CCOSWs).

The theme for Indian Army Day in 2024 will be "In Service of the Nation." This theme highlights the Indian Army's unwavering enthusiasm, commitment, and professionalism in serving the nation. It underscores the selfless acts of Indian Army personnel in upholding the nation's safety and principles.

The theme matches the Indian Army's motto, "Service Before Self," focusing on putting the country's needs before individual interests. It highlights the Army's steadfast dedication to protecting the nation's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the welfare of its people.
