Udupi, Sep 8: One person was killed and three others injured in an accident that occured on national highway 66 at Udyavar here on Thursday September 8 at around 7.15 am.

A KSRTC Airavat bus plying from Bangalore to Udupi collided with another private bus and barged into a small hut located by the side of the highway, killing its occupant on the spot, and injuring three others.

Mookambika private bus was plying from Udupi to Mangalore.

The deceased has been identified as Sangappa who was inside the hut at the time of the accident. One of the injured was rushed to a hospital in Ambalpady near Udupi.
 
Sangappa was one of the many labourers from north Karnataka residing in three huts on the side of the highway.

The injured are Shashikala (23) wife of Sangappa, relatives Durgappa (28), his wife Savitha (25), Airavat bus passenger Divakar Bhandary (60), Mookambika bus passengers Suman Hegde (23), Sumithra (34), Ramanath (23).

Udupi SP Ravikumar, additional SP Venkateshappa, circle inspector Selvaraj, SI Mohan Kottari rushed to the spot.

    A separate bill needs to be passed for driver's and conductors of buses and rash and negligent driving must be punished severely and strictly so that these kind of tragic things don't happen.

    Very sad the labourer lost his life for no fault of his. May his soul rest in peace. He must be the sole bread earner. since this ia reported case we know about it. There are so many poor especially children in India who loose their lives for no fault of theirs and because they cannot fight the rich and powerful.

    Very sorry for the incident,but these accidents can be prevented thru alternative transport...why related officials are not planning to introduce metro trains?

    Sorry for the incident, but there is nothing special regarding these type of incidents because Interseptors of police department can detect only twowheelers and fourwheelers.( buses cannot be traced by the police or R.T.O. ? ).there is no rules & regulations for these Bus drivers.If they switch on the headlights & Honk everybody give them the way and this is the rule going on in Udupi & Mangalore. I dont know what police/R.T.O. department is doing.

    Nowadays these KSRTC drivers are running the buses too rashly.... In city also they dont care... Sorry about the incident and should see that his wife and all injured get some compensation from government

    Congratulations, Mookambika you have done yet another killer job! Almost a daily routine. Time-bound, minute to minute, rush for immediate return journey, extra money, richer owner, larger fleet and in front of all these, who cares for the poor man in the hut? You will get your insurance cover and repaired road-monster back but how will the three injured survive without the bread earner? When a more ghastly accident happens tomorrow, these orphaned people will be totally forgotten. It is high time, some kind-hearted 'Anna' in Udupi files a PIL to save the lesser mortals on the highway.
