Mangaluru: Fraudulent transfer of Rs 1.82 lacs made using lost mobile phone

Mangaluru, Dec 17: A complaint has been filed at the Kankanady Police Station, alleging the unauthorized transfer of Rs 1.82 lacs through the PhonePe account of the owner of a mobile phone found on the road.

The complainant reported losing two mobile handsets while traveling to Adyar Kannur on a scooter on December 3. After filing a complaint at the Kankanady police station, the SIM card of one of the lost mobile phones was activated two days later. The complainant contacted the active number from a relative's phone, and the person who answered claimed to have found the mobile phone in Padil. Speaking in Hindi, the finder mentioned being in Kadaba at that moment and assured that he would return the mobile to Mangaluru after four days.

However, the finder failed to show up after the promised four days. On December 12, the complainant took action by blocking the SIM card of the lost mobile phone number and purchasing a new SIM. To his dismay, he discovered on the same day that Rs 1.82 lacs had been fraudulently transferred to different accounts via PhonePe using his lost mobile phone.

A formal complaint has been lodged regarding the fraudulent fund transfers orchestrated by the individual who found the lost phone.

    The person who lost the money waited for four days?He had time to use and do what one want.Should have inquired in Bnak immediately after coming to know Mobile is lost.I dont think mobile was lying on the road.He must have stolen ?And misused?

    In this particular case, it is not hard for the cyber crime police to catch the thief. The bank will have the details of the accounts to which the amount has been transferred. But the question is, whether the cyber police will act without being handsomely bribed. This is the sad part of crime investigation in our country. People's representatives should take up such cases, rather than creating a ruckus in the Parliament or in the Assembly on issues that are not relevant to them. But will they do it? I doubt very much, because our representatives too have criminal cases against them, if you go by the declaration that they themselves made while contesting for election.
