Mumbai: Yakshagana Kala Prasasti Conferred on Veteran Artiste Appayya Maniyani

Mumbai, Sep 3: ‘Acchu C Suvarna Memorial Yakshagana Kala Prasasti’ was conferred on veteran Yakshagana artiste Appayya Maniyani of Guru Narayan Yakshagana Mandali on the occasion.

The event was held at Narayana Guru auditorium of Billavar Association, Santa Cruz (East), on Thursday September 1. The Prasasti was instituted by Jaya C Suvarna, president, Billavar Association, in memory of his mother late Acchu C Suvarna.

Jaya C Suvarna presided over the programme here on Thursday evening.

Renowned Yakshagana artiste Polya Laxminarayan Shetty was the chief guest on the occasion.

Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangh Maharastra president Chandrashekar Palettady was the guest of honour.

Stage artiste Dr Bharat Kumar Polipu read the citation letter. Association vice-president and ‘Akshaya’ monthly bulletin editor Nityanand D Kotian explained the significance of the Prasasti.

Association vice-presidents L V Amin and C T Salian and women’s wing president Jayanti V Ullal were present on the dais.

Dr Eshwar Alevoor and Harish K Hejmady were also present on the occasion.

Gangadhar Paniyoor rendered the prayers.   Association cultural committee president Ravindra A Amin welcomed the gathering.  Honorary secretary Sadashiv A Karkera proposed the vote of thanks while honorary chief secretary Jyoti K Suvarna compered the programme.   

‘Pandavashvameda’, a mythological Yakshagana play, was staged by Guru Narayan Yakshagana Mandali as part of the entertainment programme.
