Udupi, Nov 17: Noor Mohammed, head of the family of four people who were brutally murdered last Sunday has urged the government to hold an inquiry into the case in a fast-track court.
Addressing reporters after submitting an appeal to the district in-charge minister Laxmi Hebbalkar on Friday, Noor Mohammed said, “District in-charge minister has assured us of providing quick justice. We have asked her to conduct the inquiry in a fast-track court. We have also urged her to nominate advocate Shivaprasad Alva and the minister has assured us of all cooperation on the matter.”
Asad, elder son of Noor Mohammed, said, “Women are progressing in today’s world. They need to be provided with security. All women including Hindus and Muslims should be given security. Women should be given a platform to address their issues at workplace. Women do not disclose harassment at the workplace. A women cell should be established to address the issues of women at workplace. Mostly, he (accused Praveen) must have harassed my younger sister. Probably she might have blocked his mobile number for toeing the line. If she had disclosed it at home, we would have taken some action. If my father would have come to know that she is facing difficulties at work, he would have asked her to quit the job. So women should be provided with a forum to air their grievances. Women are not made only to sit at home and get married. They should get opportunities to work.”
Fatima Asba, a relative of the deceased, said, “Very soon justice should be provided. We are terrified. All women are feeling unsafe. Only after justice is served we will be relieved. Women need security. Witnesses and neighbours are still scared. Police should provide us security. The killer has come in broad daylight and murdered four people. We need helpline from women and child welfare department. This should be the first and last case of this nature. Show respect to the departed souls. Do not spread rumours on social media. This is death and not a joke. Do not make false propaganda about the deceased.”
