Mangaluru, Nov 10: A pair of wolves, which are on the verge of extinction were brought to the Pilikula Biological Park on the outskirts of the city. These were brought from Visakhapatnam zoo under animal exchange programme.
Four pairs of squirrel monkey, Marmoset and Tamarin are also added to the other animals and birds already in the zoo. These are small kind of monkeys that are seen in Latin and South America. Blue Gold Macau of Mexico, Gala of Australia and Turaco of South Africa have also made their way into the zoo.
Reliance Foundation has given Rs one crore donation to build fencing and living space for the new arrivals. The structure that resembles their natural living space is built. The new campus will be inaugurated by Dinesh Gundurao, district in charge minister on November 18. Life Science education trust of Bengaluru has already provided free centre for feeding animals as well as the breeding box.
Pilikula already has around 1200 animals, birds and reptiles of various species. More animals are being added to the zoo as per the information provided by H J Bhandary, director of the biological park.
