Sringeri, Nov 9: Two people, including a woman of Karnataka origin, were arrested in the exchange of fire that took place between police and naxals at Wayanad district of Kerala.
The arrested is identified as Srimati alias Unnimaya, a resident of Belagodu Kudige of Shringeri taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.
Police attacked team of five naxals who went to have dinner at a house under the limits of Talapuzzha police station on Tuesday night. When the police asked the naxals to surrender, they opened fire. Three naxals managed to escape, while police arrested Chandru alias Tiruvendigam of Kerala origin and Srimati of Karnataka origin. Both were in the wanted list of police of Kerala and Karnataka.
Srimati disappeared from her home and joined the naxal group in 2007. She has got more than 15 cases registered against her including forest department check post destruction at Tanikodu in 2009 and exchange of gunfire at Matolli during Lok Sabha elections.
